New Art Exhibit Showcases Fabric Collages and Quilts in Cook
A vibrant new exhibition is set to captivate visitors at the Northwoods Friends of the Art Gallery from January 9 to 31, 2025. The gallery, nestled in Cook near Highway 53, will feature an array of textile art pieces. Ely artist Cecilia Rolando's fabric collages take center stage, complemented by quilts crafted by the Round Robin Quilt group. This exhibit promises a unique blend of artistic expression that invites viewers to explore the rich textures and narratives woven into each piece.
The Northwoods Friends of the Art Gallery, situated on South River Street, offers a platform for local artists to showcase their talents. Cecilia Rolando's innovative fabric collages, characterized by intricate designs and vivid colors, stand out as a highlight of the exhibition. Additionally, the quilts from the Round Robin Quilt group—featuring works by Vickie Lange, JoAnn Anderson, Cheryl Harelstad, Barb Schmidt, and Alberta Whitenack—add depth and variety to the display. These quilts not only serve as functional art but also tell stories through their patterns and materials.
Each artist brings a distinct perspective to the exhibition, enriching the visitor experience. Rolando’s collages delve into themes of nature and community, while the quilts explore personal and collective histories. The combination of these two forms of textile art creates a dynamic dialogue between tradition and innovation. Visitors can expect to find both familiar and surprising elements within this collection, making it a must-see event for art enthusiasts.
The gallery will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the winter season. A special reception will be held on Saturday, January 11, from noon to 2 p.m., offering attendees the opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about their creative processes. This event promises to be an engaging and inspiring occasion, celebrating the diverse talents of local artisans and their contributions to the cultural landscape of Cook.
